Comma Butterfly

Yesterday Angus noticed this Comma butterfly in the vegetable garden, attracted by his moth trap. The comma has only recently colonized Ireland with not more than a handful of records in Co. Wicklow. It was the first time Angus, or any of us, had ever seen one.
Here it is with wings closed, blending in with its surroundings.

Here it is opened  up on a Buddleia bush.

Here one can see why it is called a comma.

Zoe took this photo of a Peacock butterfly as it was resting on the gravel.
They are frequent garden visitors and much more conspicuous.
